Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Every year in October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month draws attention to women’s situation while also focusing on prevention, early detection and research. Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women. This year we were able to get the Zurich Cancer League (Krebsliga Zürich) to talk about the close connection between breast and ovarian cancer in their community.

Two colors, one goal: Information and education. Pink is the international color for breast cancer, turquoise for ovarian cancer.

Women with BRCA gene mutations are considered a risk group for hereditary breast cancer. Around 50% of women with the BRCA1 mutation and 20% of women with the BRCA2 mutation fall ill with ovarian cancer. Hence the rule of thumb: if breast cancer has been detected, check for ovarian cancer!
